چکیده
Online learning is the latest in a long list of social technologies that have been introduced to improve distance learning by adding various augmentations, substitutions, or blending of new pedagogical approaches and technologies. Technologies utilized for distance and online learning include: correspondence courses, physical mail, and printed matter; telephone and/or audio recordings; television and/or video recordings; computer-assisted instruction; group communications (asynchronous and synchronous); the Web and multimedia materials; simulation and gaming; collaborative learning; asynchronous learning networks (ALN); collaborative knowledge systems; immersive simulations; and wireless and handheld devices. Multimedia Diversification of the Asynchronous Learning Network Learning Environment
Text-based discussions in Asynchronous Learning Networks (ALN) may not be an optimal learning environment for all learners. This paper discusses the reasons why and explores the possibility of applying multimedia to ALN. The contribution of this paper is to provide ways of diversifying the ALN learning environment to accommodate the needs of diverse learners having different learning styles.
متن کاملAn experiment in collaborative learning using a game and a computer mediated conference in accounting courses
The accounting profession has criticized schools for failing to provide graduates who know how businesses function. For over 50 fifty years educators have tried new methods to improve delivery of this education. This paper describes a field experiments combining the use of a game and the availability of a Computer Mediated Conference (CMC) to improve learning in accounting courses. Results sugg...
متن کاملCollaborative Evolution of a Dynamic Scenario Model for the Interaction of Critical Infrastructures
This paper reviews current work on a model of the cascading effects of Critical Infrastructure (CI) failures during disasters. Based upon the contributions of 26 professionals, we have created a reliable model for the interaction among sixteen CIs. An internal CI model can be used as a core part of a number of larger models, each of which are tailored to a specific disaster in a specific location.
متن کاملCollaborative Discourse Structures in Computer Mediated Group Communications
Using application oriented conceptual maps to categorize the group discussion would be an advancement in the design of CMC systems to allow much larger groups to collaborate productively. The group meta communication process should allow the group to modify and evolve these conceptual discourse templates.
متن کاملVirtual Community Knowledge Evolution
This paper puts forth a vision and a possible architecture for a community knowledge evolution system. We propose augmenting a multimedia document repository (digital library) with innovative knowledge evolution support, including computer-mediated communications, community process support, decision support, advanced hypermedia features, and conceptual knowledge structures. These tools and the ...
